Hello Crafty Friends! It’s Fall Release day at Papertrey Ink and I’m so excited to share a fun scarecrow-themed card featuring the Build-A-Scarecrow and the Houndstooth Press Plate from the latest release! The Build-A-Scarecrow dies are so much fun- you can mix and match the pieces to create your own adorable scarecrow, complete with a hat, overalls, and lots of charming little details.
To begin, I created a soft background using the Houndstooth Press Plate. I inked the plate with green and blue inks, starting with green along the bottom, then placed an A2 sized cotton card panel over the top and ran it through my die cutting machine. I added a stitched edge using a stitched rectangle die from my stash.
Next, I die cut two panels using the Love To Layer: Torn Edges Die – one from blue cardstock and one from white cardstock. I lightly ink blended the white panel with Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide, then adhered it over the blue panel, offsetting it slightly to one side so a bit of blue would peek out from underneath. to one side.
For the grassy border, I die cut white cardstock using the Grassy Edge Die and ink blended it with New Leaf and Simply Chartreuse inks. I added splatters of dark green watercolor for a little extra texture, then used the Torn Edges die to trim the bottom and sides before adhering it to the layered panel.
I then adhered the panel onto the houndstooth background.
To build the scarecrow, I die cut overalls from white linen cardstock and ink blended with Spring Rain and Blueberry Sky inks. The body, neckerchief, and patches were die cut from patterned paper. The books were die cut from Spring Rain cardstock, and I lightly ink blended the edges with Blueberry Sky.
The face was die cut from Vintage Cream cardstock. I ink blended the eyes with black ink and nose with Orange Zest ink.
For the hat, I die cut white cardstock and ink blended it with Honey Nut and Fine Linen inks. To give it a little extra texture, I used the Cover Plate: Handmade Quilt Dies. The inside of the hat was die cut from Simply Chartreuse cardstock and the band from Honey Nut, and the buckle from gold cardstock.
I also added sunflowers, pumpkins and the cute little crow included in the set. All the pieces were die cut from white cardstock and ink blended with the following inks:
Pumpkins: Canyon Clay, Orange Zest, Honey Nut
Sunflowers: Limoncello, Harvest Gold, Honey Nut, Simply Chartreuse, New Leaf
Crow: Black Jack
I adhered everything onto the front of the card. To complete the card, I stamped the pumpkin patch sentiment from Farm Fresh Pumpkins in black onto a wooden sign created with Hold That Thought Dies.
