Hello Crafty Friends! It’s Fawny Holiday Week at Lawn Fawn and today, I am sharing a Christmas music box created with the new Build-A-Christmas Tree die set and Cheesy Christmas.
To start, I created a 3D tree using the Carrot Treat Box as a base. I adhered the tree layers from Build-A-Christmas Tree onto the sides. I die cut the layers of the tree using green paper from Spiffier Speckles paper pack. I added some snow on the edges of the layers with Frosted Lace Stickles. I curled the sides of the layers so that I could fit four sides onto the treat box. Tip: use strong adhesive. I used Natural PH Adhesive.

To make the base, I die cut the sides of the platform pop up to make a hexagon. I adhered the hexagon together with removable glue dots. I placed the hexagon onto Kraft cardboard (I just used the cardboard that comes with the Lawn Fawn cardstock paper packs). I traced the hexagon onto the cardboard. I drew tabs on the outer edges of the sides with a pencil. I scored the fold lines, and cut out the base and made slits between the tabs with scissors. I repeated the process to make the top base of the music box using Candy Cane paper.

I placed the music mechanism onto the base and marked the bottom of the base for the wind up key piece. I used small circle die to make an opening hole for the key. I glued the music mechanism onto the base.

I placed the top base onto the top of music mechanism and marked the opening for the turning screw (highlighted in red). I die cut the opening with a circle die.

I adhered double sided tape onto the side tabs of the base. I removed the glue dots from the hexagon and I wrapped the hexagon around the base of the music box. Next, I adhered the top on to the base using double sided tape. I made sure that the turning screw was sticking out of the base (highlighted by the red circle). I glued 4 wooden beads onto the bottom of the music box for the legs.

To attach the tree onto the base, I then die cut 8 x 1.5″ circles out of thick cardstock (I used the cardboard backing that comes with the Lawn Fawn Cardstock packs). Tip: make sure the tree is high enough from the platform pop up. At first I used 6 circles but then my tree was not high enough from edges of the platform pop up and kept getting caught so I added two more circle (You can test the height before glueing the tree onto the turning screw). I used a small die to make a hole in the middle of each circle so that it would fit onto the turning screw. I adhered the circles together making sure that the middle holes lined up and then I adhered the circle onto the base of the tree.

I added glue inside the small circle above and adhered the tree onto the turning screw. I added peppermint border onto the bottom of the base. I stamped the images and die cut the images with Copic Markers listed below.

I finished off the card with sentiments from Cheesy Christmas and a Gold Heat Embossed “Tree.”

Oh. My. Gosh! How super-creative is this?! I love it. Thank you so much for sharing. I have to try this!
You are welcome 🙂
I love this!! So very creative! I never would have thought of this! I want to make it myself and have or am ordering all the items. But I am wondering on the music box you linked to, is there a place to attach the tree? It seems that yours has a white part on top for this, but the image in the link does not have this. Am I misunderstanding? Thank you for your creativity!! So inspiring!
Hi Sharon,
The image of the music wind up mechanism that was attached is similar to the one I used. I found it on Amazon quite a while back but couldn’t find the exact same one. I did see that there is one that is sold on Temu but it comes with a craft set. Here is the link. https://www.temu.com/ca/classic-wooden-christmas-music-box-diy-kit–assembly-paint-santa-and-christmas-tree-themed-manual-crank-mechanism-no-electricity-needed-g-601099535097096.html?_oak_mp_inf=EIi6jqKm1ogBGiBmMGJkODI3M2VkNmI0ZDk2YmZhMTUwZDJkYWZiMmVlNCCq4MXRtzI%3D&top_gallery_url=https%3A%2F%2Fimg.kwcdn.com%2Fproduct%2FFancyalgo%2FVirtualModelMatting%2F14d740e2d7061c8ca38e416453b449fd.jpg&spec_gallery_id=2161119647&refer_page_sn=10009&refer_source=0&freesia_scene=2&_oak_freesia_scene=2&_oak_rec_ext_1=OTY2&_oak_gallery_order=286710014%2C1735062952%2C721825239%2C901527404%2C1030887247&search_key=wind%20up%20music%20mechanism%20for%20crafts&refer_page_el_sn=200049&_x_sessn_id=24a622h4dc&refer_page_name=search_result&refer_page_id=10009_1732921881222_io30asf7wt
