Hello Crafty Friends! Today, I am sharing a Valentine’s card created with the Passionate Penguins set from Sunny Studio Stamps. I thought I would do some colouring therapy this week and created this card with a Copic Marker rain background.
To start, I stamped the penguins onto a piece of 4″ x 5.2″ white cardstock as I wanted to leave a white border on the card. I stamped the reflection using the mirror technique highlighted in my December 10, 2021 post. I coloured the reflection first with Copics listed below.

For the rainy sky background and ground, the Copics I used were B99, B95, B18, B21, B00, B000. I first drew a line across the background to define the ground and sky with B000. I then turned the card to the side to draw horizontal lines for the rain. I found that I had better control of drawing straight horizontal lines in this position. I drew lines across the entire sky portion of the card with B000 followed by B00. I went in with B95 only on both sides of the card (top and bottom when viewing from a side position). Next I used B21 to draw lines across the entire sky portion of the card to soften the edges. I then went over the sides only with B99.
I went in with B18 over the two sides and then blended the entire sky background with B21. I went over the sides only with B95 and blended again with B21. I smoothed the edges by drawing horizontal lines with B00 and B000 over the entire sky background. I did this several times until I achieved a blended look with the colours. I then drew short horizontal lines across the sky with a Copic Blender.
For the ground, I used B99 to highlight the areas on the ground where I wanted shadows. I went over the same areas with B95, B18, B21 and B00 until the colours looked blended. I left some areas white for the puddles.
I coloured the umbrella and penguins with Copics listed below.
I used a white gelly roll pen to draw the rain. I smudged some of the rain drops with my fingers for contrast by gently pushing my finger upwards after I drew the vertical rain lines . I also went over some of the vertical rain lines with B95 and a Copic Blender for contrast. I also drew tiny rain drops and water splashes on the umbrella and ground with a white gelly roll pen.
I finished off the card by adding a few hearts and a white heat embossed sentiment.
I hope you like my card and thanks so much for stopping by today!
